SPECIAL TOWN BOARD MEETING

MARCH 6, 2006

Members present:   Supervisor Belden, A. Steitz, T. LaPointe.

Absent:  E. Frasier and R. Gladu.

 

Supervisor Belden opened the special meeting at 4:00 pm.

 

The purpose of the meeting is to schedule a public hearing on proposed local law #1 of 2006.

 

RESOLUTION #43 OF 2006

RESOLUTION TO HOLD A PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED LOCAL LAW #1 OF 2006 (Local Law Increasing the amount of the Alternative Veterans Exemption).

 

Resolution introduced by  T. LaPointe, and seconded by A. Steitz.

 

WHEREAS,   The New York State Legislator increased the amount of the Alternative Veterans Exemption, and

 

WHEREAS,   the proposed increase of the Alternative Veterans Exemption ceiling from the current limit of $80,000 to $180,000 for the purposes of calculating the 15% wartime veteran and 10% combat zone veteran exemptions on the 2007 tax bills, and

 

WHEREAS,   the Hague Town Board acknowledges that property values have increased over the years thereby making the current level of exemption less effective for our veterans, and

 

WHEREAS,   the proposed change will not have a large monetary effect on the other taxpayers of Hague, and

 

WHEREAS,   in order for the veterans in the Town of Hague to receive the increase in the exemption, the town must pass a local law, and

 

WHEREAS,   in order for the exemption to take effect for the January 2007 tax bills, this law will have to take effect by April 10 of 2006.  Now therefore be it

 

RESOLVED,  that the Town Board of the Town of Hague will hold a Public Hearing on March 14, 2006 @ 6:15 pm on proposed Local Law #1 of 2006 to increase the amount of the Alternative Veterans Exemption.
